Health in focus: Maternity Care, Radiation Exposure, and Genetic Alterations

Lauren researches how health professionals can provide non-judgemental support when families experience challenges that impact parenting and a children's well-being. To understand top priorities for parents and professionals, Her team co-designed an action plan outlining how they believed parents and professionals can better support families, so children grow up healthy and thriving in their own communities and cultures.

Radiation and nuclear often evoke fear, with many believing all radiation is harmful. This perception is often fuelled by applying regulations on even extremely low doses of radiation. This talk will explore radiation sources, biological and health effects, and compare the risks of radiation exposure to other common hazards.

The placenta, like most other organs in the body, goes through its own biological process of ageing. Created for a finite lifespan of ~9 months, it is grown and dies in a choreographed timeline. But what happens when it ages too quickly and stops functioning before the baby is born?
