In the next instalment of our highlight series for our 10 year anniversary, we had a chat to Kempsy Adams, our Brisbane City Coordinator for Pint of Science Australia!

Kempsy Adams

Brisbane City Coordinator

What do you do for Pint of Science?

I’m the city coordinator for Brisbane. I bring together our speakers and venues and facilitate the collaboration between the two.

What does success look like in your Pint of Science Role?

People learning something new when they come to our events! Success to me is having a packed house at each of our venues, our vollies, speakers, venues and guests alike all happy and satisfied with the festival.

Why PoS over other volunteer organisations?

I am passionate about science communication! I believe in bringing the science to the people instead of bringing people to the science. As professionals in this industry, we all have to work harder to bridge the divide and Pint helps. As a volunteering position, it's also a lot of fun and offers a lot of opportunities to that I don't have otherwise.

What do you do as a day job?

I'm an entomologist at the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries! I wear two hats, working in Market Access research with fruit flies and working in chemical ecology.

2024 is the 10-year anniversary of PoS in Australia. What are you planning to do to make the festival special?

In honour of our tenth anniversary, I will also be giving a talk to celebrate the cause!

In three "dot points", describe yourself?

  • I am enthusiastic and passionate (sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming!)
  • I am obsessed with my two dogs! I love animals
  • I am endlessly curious
