Why Some People Never Forget a Face (and Others Definitely Do)
Dr James Dunn
(Senior Lecturer, UNSW)
Have you ever failed to recognise someone or met someone who never forgets a face? From face blindness to superrecognisers, discover why our abilities differ and how we study them.\
I’m a cognitive scientist studying how we learn to recognise faces—and why some people are much better at it than others. I’m passionate about sharing this research and showing how it shapes everyday life.

The dynamic lives of supermassive black holes
Rebecca McElroy
(Rebecca McElroy is an astrophysicist studying how galaxies and their supermassive black holes evolve over cosmic history. She is a Research Fellow at the University of Southern Queensland working on large astronomical surveys. )
Supermassive black holes flicker on and off over time. This talk explores what drives these changes and what they reveal about galaxies and the evolving Universe.
How the World SEAS the Ocean
Dr Samantha Burke
(Sammy is a marine ecologist passionate about science communication. She aims to make science more understandable and accessible to all. Please chat with her at Pint 2026 or check out samanthamarine.com for more info!)
Finding Nemo and Jaws; Jacque Cousteau and Sir David Attenborough; how do we communicate marine science to the public? In an era of mistrust in science, communication with the public is more important than ever. How do we engage public interest in ocean research and why is it so difficult? Dr. Sammy Burke discusses these topics - and plenty of fishy myths and facts - as she tests the waters of improving marine science communication.
