Join us for a night where cosmic phenomena meet cutting-edge science. Embark on a journey through the cosmos as we explore the universality of gravity and the three body chaos and we'll also discuss how we can make a map the Universe.
Three Body Chaos: From the Solar System to Gravitational Waves
Dr Evgeni Grishin
(Post-doc, Monash University)
Two-body motion has a simple solution, but three-body motion is notoriously chaotic. We'll explore how gravity’s universality on multiple length and mass scales and three-body chaos shape Solar System objects and drive black hole mergers, producing gravitational waves.

Listening to the Universe with a galaxy-sized ear
Rowina Nathan
(PhD candidate, Monash University)
Gravitational waves are continuously rippling spacetime: the fabric making up our Universe. If you listen very closely (with an ear the size of the galaxy) you can hear a background rumble. Rowina's team mapped this rumbling and found something surprising. What did they find? How the heck does one build a telescope that big? Come to this talk and find out!
