CoralWatch helps monitor coral health globally through citizen science. Through a simple and scientifically-rigorous tool, everyone can make a difference monitoring the coral reefs around us. Join us and learn more about our data to date (over 230,000 corals monitored in 79 countries). With the current mass bleaching event happening, now is a great time to get involved.
The effect of a poaching depth in a square shaped protected area.
Sonit Singh
(University of Queensland)
In this presentation, I am exploring the concept of implementing a poaching depth (limit upto which poachers can walk inside a forest) to a wildlife protected area(PA). The Implementation of poaching depth will change the population dynamics of the PA since they cannot penetrate deep into the forest, hence the population in the inacessible area remains unchanged and only the population outside the inaccessible area (which the poachers have access) will be exposed to the poachers. Due to this the mathematical equations which will be used to calculate the number of rangers required to eliminate poaching will also change. Hence it will help us to conclude whether we should invest in rangers or buy new cells to increase the size of the PA.
