Once Upon a Reef: A Story of Fish, Change, and Cleverness

Annabell Klinke (Born in the land of beer and Sauerkraut (Germany), I crossed oceans to follow Steve Irwin's path of becoming what my 4-year-old self called an animal explorer. These days, I study fish. )
Have you ever wondered if fish are smart? Can they learn tricks? And if so, how does losing their homes affect their minds? Thatís why I study how coral reef loss shapes fish cognition and personality. Curious to learn more? Join me for a pint and ask away.

Towards Building Trust in AI and Robots

Resul Dagdanov (Resul Dagdanov is a researcher with an academic and professional background in aerospace engineering and autonomous systems. He is on a journey through the steppe lands of robotics. It is a journey to enable collaboration between humans and robots.)
As AI and robotics advance rapidly, many people struggle to adopt them. This presentation explores why trust in intelligent robots matters and how we can build it. Drawing on research across engineering, psychology, health, and business, it highlights key challenges and solutions to bridge the gap between rapid technological progress and slower human adoption. It shows how humans and robots can work together, especially in healthcare, to make everyday tasks easier by putting people first.

Breathing, bugs and the ocean: the wide reach of carbon dioxide sensing

Dr Natasha Kumar (Dr Natasha Kumar's research group at UNSW investigates respiratory chemoreception, using fundamental insights from rodent models and human-specific neuroanatomical mapping to explore disease mechanisms.)
Take a journey into how we sense carbon dioxide, the impact on health across species, how air pollution affects breathing, and what this means for tackling respiratory disease.
