From learning about condensed matter physics, gravitational wobbles, to looking at molecules through telescopes, these speakers will take you to new highs.
Crystals: not just pretty but useful!
Erin Grant
(CSIRO)
Ever heard of condensed matter physics? No? Well, I hope I can convince you it’s both important and fascinating! From understanding fundamental aspects of the natural world, to the origin of your phone, solid state physics is everywhere. It’s also vital to quantum sensing, done by our group at CSIRO.
Fantastic Planets and How to Find Them
Alex Wallace
(Monash University)
I present a brief overview on planets beyond our solar system: how they can be found, what we found so far, and how this ties into my work investigating gravitational wobbles with the Gaia space telescope.
The very small molecules around very old stars
Taissa Danilovich
(Monash University)
I use radio telescopes to observe molecules in space. But how can we see molecules (which are very small) when they're so far away? I will explain how molecules can be detected and describe some interesting results from these observations.
