There are approximately 2,600 long-term missing persons in Australia right now. Finding and identifying them is a critically important task – one that a forensic anthropologist can help with! This presentation will focus on how their expertise can be used to find and identify these missing persons.

(PhD Candidate, University of Newcastle)
Tori is trained as a forensic anthropologist and is currently doing her PhD at the University of Newcastle, testing out new ways to locate those who are buried in covert graves. She loves to teach and do research, and has experience working on forensic anthropological casework.

Isabella Crebert
(PhD Candidate, University of Newcastle)
Isabella is a PhD candidate in Laws at the University of Newcastle. Isabella’s research is based in forensic anthropology and focuses on the techniques used to estimate sex from the mandible (the lower jawbone), which is essential for the parameters used to estimate the identity of human remains.

Associate Professor of Criminology

Xanthé is internationally renowned for her work across several areas of research related to both forensic anthropology and criminology. She is an Associate Professor of Criminology at the University of Newcastle and is the author of multiple books that focus on both the offenders and the victims in our criminal justice system, investigating cases that she believes to be unjust.
