Advancing stroke care for patients in Regional Australia
Assoc Prof. Joe Moxon
(Associate Professor, James Cook University)
Patients experiencing stroke in rural and regional Australia fare significantly worse than their metropolitan counterparts. This is, in part, due to the need to travel to access specialist care which introduces delays in instigating treatment. Joe's group is working with clinicians and scientists across Australia to find new ways to rapidly identify patients experiencing stroke with the aim of increasing the numbers receiving prompt treatment. This talk will outline the current and future research, and discuss how they believe that this will help address disparities in care between metropolitan and non-metropolitan communities.
