Exploring Space while avoiding radiation, seeing through realistic AI faces, and the changing Science of Ageing - let's smash some barriers together!
Space Radiation: the invisible hazard
Dr Stefania Peracchi
(Scientist, ANSTO)
Space radiation is an unseen but relentless force—damaging electronics, degrading spacecraft, and endangering astronauts. How do we protect future missions? Join Stefania as she uncovers this cosmic threat and explores cutting-edge research shaping the future of space exploration. The universe is calling—are we ready?
Are Super-Recognisers the Key to Identifying AI-Generated Faces?
Dr James Dunn
(Senior Lecturer, UNSW)
AI is crafting hyperrealistic faces that deceive us, posing risks to digital identity. James will explain whether super-recognisers, people with exceptional face recognition skills, could be the solution to detecting these problematic AI-generated faces.
Learning About How Old Bodies Fail
Dr Habib Joukhdar
(Post-doc, University of Sydney)
Instead of engineering healthy tissue, Habib spends a lot of time working on ways to engineer aging tissue. We don’t know a lot about what physically aging (stiffer muscles, joints etc) does to our cells, so it’s time to probe into it and maybe figure out ways to improve our aged health.
