In the next instalment of our highlight series for our 10 year anniversary, we had a chat to Katie Hannan, who volunteered as our Adelaide City Coordinator for the 2024 festival!
What do you do for Pint of Science?
This is my third year being involved with PoS. In 2022 I was a general event volunteer, then in 2023-24 I was the Adelaide City Coordinator. I’ve now moved into a role as a Volunteer Lifecycle Officer on the National Team. I am working on improving the volunteer experience, ensuring that our volunteers are motivated, committed, and valued.
What does success look like in your Pint of Science Role?
Success looks like having people who come back to volunteer with Pint of Science and recommend that their friends and colleagues get involved too.
Why PoS over other volunteer organisations?
I love being involved in an organisation that helps connect people with scientific research, it makes it so much more accessible.
2024 celebrated the 10-year anniversary of PoS in Australia. What was the highlight of this year’s festival for you?
The highlight for me was hearing someone I’ve known since I was in high school talking about her research into how we experience aromas and how we go about tasting. I’d never heard her present her work before.
What do you do as a day job?
I’m a Research Data Specialist at CSIRO. I work with data and software publication systems, data management planning and persistent identifiers.
