Rural health in focus: Retaining regional nurses & exercising right!

Exercise is good for us and increasing health benefits are seen when we increase the amount of exercise we do. In this joint presentation, Rodrigo will discuss the benefits and challenges that humans face when using cycling for recreation and exercise. In particular he will show evidence that cycling can help many systems of the body but that it can also lead to injuries and other conditions that need to be assessed by health professionals. Daniel will focus on cardiac arrhythmias in recreationally active people. He will discuss topical research which suggests that there are benefits to exercise, but only to a point, and that once the amount of exercise performed exceeds this, potentially negative changes to the heart may occur.

Addressing the challenge of nurse retention in regional and remote areas is pivotal for maintaining healthcare standards and accessibility. By focusing on early career registered nurses in regional, rural, and remote Victoria, our research delves into the multifaceted factors influencing nurse turnover in these settings. We discuss effective strategies for countering low retention rates and aim to answer the question: What are the factors that influence their decision to leave or stay?
