From tomb to table: the Ancient Yeast Project
Dr Serena Love
(Principal Archaeologist, Everick Foundation)
This project extracted yeast from ancient Egyptian ceramic vessels to make bread and beer. The methods and outcomes of the project will be discussed, including sourdough bread making, experimental baking and attempts with beer.
Serena completed her PhD in 2011 from Stanford University in Archaeology. She has worked in Egypt, Turkey, Israel and Iraq since 1995 and moved to Australia in 2012. She currently heads the Everick Foundation, working with Aboriginal archaeology.
