From machine learning to robots in space - we've created some clever, fast learning tech. What is the future of machine learning? And what are clever robots teaching us about the universe?

Starbugs: the little astronomy robots

Ms Rebecca Brown (Fibre Optics Engineer, Australian Astronomical Optics / Macquarie University)
The Starbugs are small dancing robots used to position optical fibres inside a telescope, for astronomers to learn about the stars and universe around us. Did you know that they are currently being commissioned inside the UKST at Siding Spring Observatory?

Rebecca Brown is an engineer working on fibre optic positioners for the Australian Astronomical Observatory at Macquarie University and studying part-time at the University of Sydney.

Improving Amazon with quantum physics

Mr Christian Marciniak (PhD Candidate, University of Sydney)
From quantum computers to robots in space - we've created some clever, fast learning tech. How is quantum computing saving us money? And what are clever robots teaching us about the universe?

Christian Marciniak graduated his Masters in Berlin working on cryogenic optical resonators, and is now completing his PhD at the University of Sydney in experimental quantum simulation. He is a passionate teacher, mentor and science communicator based in Sydney.
