A look at some beautiful creatures found around Australia, how our actions affect their lives, and how we can help prevent their extinction

Superb City Wrens

Dr Kylie Soanes (Research Fellow, The University of Melbourne)
We share our cities with some truly incredible native species - superb fairy-wrens are a prime example! But city-living is not always easy for these delightful little critters. The Superb City Wrens project aims to change that. And we need your help.

Dr. Kylie Soanes is a conservation biologist who wants to save native species in our cities and towns. Kylie works at The University of Melbourne where she looks for ways to make life easier for city wildlife.

An army of claw-some friends

Dr Elodie Camprasse (Research Fellow, Deakin University)
Thousands & thousands of spider crabs gather in Port Phillip Bay in winter. The aggregations are world-famous but we know surprisingly little about them! Elodie will tell you how you can help scientists solve mysteries surrounding this wonder.

Elodie is a marine ecologist with a passion for science communication. She used to be a penguinologist (#RealJobTitle). Now she is focusing on understanding spider crab aggregations and ecology. She is a keen diver & underwater photographer.

Sex in a changing world

Prof Bob Wong (Professor and ARC Future Fellow, Monash University)
Sex, even at the best of times, can be a challenging pursuit. Things have become a whole lot tougher for animals living in an increasingly human-dominated world — with consequences for the survival of species and the future of biodiversity.

Bob is a professor of behavioural ecology and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow based at Monash University. Bob’s research focuses on how human-induced environmental change affects wildlife behaviour, ecology and evolution.
