Are urban forests ready for climate change?

Dr Manuel Esperon (Research Fellow, Western Sydney University)
Urban forests provide multiple benefits to city dwellers in cities. Yet, this provision is threatened by climate change. Manuel will present part of this research, assessing the impacts of climate change on plants planted in Australian cities.

Dr. Manuel Esperon is a Research Fellow at Western Sydney University. Manuel is interested in species responses to climatic and environmental changes, especially assessing vulnerability to climate change.

Removing toxic metals from harsh environments

Dr Jessica Veliscek-Carolan (Researcher, ANSTO)
Removing toxic metal contaminants from environmental waters affected by acid mine drainage is challenging because of the highly acidic conditions. Hoever, materials developed to treat nuclear wastes are necessarily robust and are up to the task!

Jessica is a Nuclear Chemist at ANSTO, where she's worked since 2008. In 2016, she completed her PhD on materials to treat radioactive wastes while at ANSTO. As well as waste, her research interests include nuclear fuel and environmental remediation.
