Anyone who’s watched 'Finding Nemo' knows that the ocean has highways ("Grab shell, dude!"), and those who grew up near the coast have probably stubbed their toe on an underwater rock - but what can migration pathways and marine geology tell us about our future? Come find out at this special Australian Marine Sciences Association supported event. / This AMSA and Inspiring Australia supported event will be held upstairs at the Loft at Duxton at the O'Connor shops. Come upstairs when doors open and grab a pint and a bite to eat before the talks begin (the Haloumi Burger is great). 18+ event

Ocean Highways

Some plants and animals can travel thousands of kilometres across the oceans. How and why do they do it? Which ones can and which ones can’t - and what does it mean for our future, as many species try to move toward the poles to stay cool?

Dr Ceridwen Fraser was named the 2016 ACT Scientist of the Year during National Science Week in August.

A New Geological Epoch

A new geological epoch, the 'Anthropocene', has been proposed due to human impacts on the Earth. What will future geologists see at the Anthropocene sedimentary horizon? As many rocks have marine origins, how the ocean is changing is a key question.

Dr Will Howard is a visiting fellow at the ANU and the University of Tasmania, and is the Deputy Chair of the Australian National Committee for Antarctic Research.
