Western Australia is famous for mining, but did you know Perth CSIRO researchers are also improving mining processes? Beyond mixing liquids in a lab coat, chemistry is responsible for a whole host of mineral extraction techniques – as well as helping us evolve to where we are today. Join us at The Mercado Bar at Market Grounds to find out more! This venue is wheelchair accessible and will have an Auslan interpreter present.

A pint of processing

Danielle Hewitt (Experimental Scientist, CSIRO)
At CSIRO Waterford, I use chemistry principles to research metal extraction. Mining is not as easy as digging up chunks of metals; in reality, the ore that is mined can require chemical processing to recover the metal (and treat the leftovers, too).

Tracing the evolution of life on Earth

Dr Anais Pages (Research Scientist, Astrobiology, CSIRO)
Learn about the history of life on Earth that began about 3.8 billion years ago, the organisms that produced the oxygen that we breathe today, and how life evolved through time.
