Artist In Residence Concept Submission
Thank you for your interest in our Artist in Residence program. It's an important role in setting the theming for the year. Check out our previous Artworks and Artist Residencies.
As part of this year's commissioning process, we are seeking concept drafts from interested artists from across Australia.
- This submission should include a ROUGH draft/sketch of your idea or concept.
- The finished artwork must be delivered either by scanning/photographing the artwork at a high resolution or ideally, be provided as a vector graphic (.svg, .eps, or .ai file). We’d love to have any original final-copy as a keepsake (we're sentimental like that).
- You maintain all rights to the concept and any unsuccessful concepts will not be used by Pint of Science Australia in any manner.
- You should refrain from sharing any concept work on social media or publicly until either you're informed that your application is unsuccessful, or until a mutually agreed launch/reveal date.
- If your application is successful, you will need to grant Pint of Science irrevocable, unconditional rights to use and distribution of the artwork and derivatives (including print, online, etc and advertising material).
- You are welcome to submit multiple concepts if you like - just fill out the form again for each major idea or draft.
- This is a paid role. Upon selection, an initial $200 payment will be made, followed by a $400 payment on satisfactory delivery of the final artwork.
- Theming is quite important for us and will play a major role in deciding which artwork will be successful. We'd like to get the following messages across within the artwork.
- We want to break damaging scientific stereotypes and celebrate diversity.
- We want to highlight recent Australian research, preferably less well-known.
- We'd like a reference to each of our six themes
- A reference to beer/socialising/relaxed environment but very importantly does not encourage alcoholism.
- We like an artwork where the more you look, the more you see.
- A 'mascot' or hero within the drawing (ie. Spotted Quoll 2018, Blue-ringed Octopus 2019) to help draw attention. Bonus if it is climate change related.
- If the artwork includes colour, it will also need to look good as screen-printed white-on-black on t-shirts and merchandise (check out program or merch).
Applications will close on the 1st of November and we will be in touch with all applicants by mid November.
